Importance of Science Literacy In Homeland Security Jobs

Q.3: Some jobs require a basic level of science literacy - that is, a general knowledge of science, math, and technology in order to understand information, think critically, solve problems and make decisions. For those who will be entering the new homeland security jobs, how important do you think it will be for them to be science literate? Very important, somewhat important, neutral, not very important or not important all?

Three in five (62%) Americans feel it is very important for those entering the new homeland security jobs to be science literate. An additional 33% say this will be somewhat important.

While the large majority of both men and women feel this is important, women are more likely than men to say this is very important (68% vs. 56%). Men more often than their female counterparts report this is somewhat important (36% vs. 29%).
