Would you say the new focus on terrorism at home and abroad has made you more aware of the role science, technology and their sophisticated tools play in U.S. military, intelligence and homeland security fields? (If "yes:") Would that be much more aware of somewhat more aware?

Approximately seven in ten (69%) of the students say that the new focus on terrorism has made them more aware of the role of science and technology in the U.S. military, intelligence and homeland security fields. Twenty-three percent report they are much more aware and 46% somewhat more aware. Three in every ten (29%) said they are no more aware today.

Those more likely to say that the new focus on terrorism has caused them to be much more aware of the role science, technology and their sophisticated tools play in military, intelligence and homeland security field include:

  • Students attending college in the South (28%)
  • Those who believe there will be a shift away from interesting careers in business and finance (32%)
  • Those who think science and technology is very important in meeting terrorist threats (30%).
