Baytown, Texas

Established in 1992, this site's Making Science Make Sense program has grown from five schools in one school district to 20 schools in four districts. Activities include:

• A retired Bayer environmental scientist teaches hands-on science to more than 2,300 elementary students.
  
  
• A team of 15 Bayer employees (engineers, chemists, accountants) volunteer their time, working with some 1,800 students and their teachers to help them learn and teach science the way scientists do – by experimenting. These volunteers also serve as mentors, career counselors and science fair judges.
  
  
• Corporate sponsorship of "Star Lab," an astronomy program for junior high and high school students.
  
  
• Sponsorship of the Eddie V. Gray Wetlands Education and Recreation Center’s science lab and wetlands marsh exhibit. These enhance environmental science education and promote environmental commitment among students and adults.
  
  
• Plant tours and chemical demonstrations for high school chemistry classes that show students how Bayer's products are formulated.
