Research Triangle Park, North Carolina

The Research Triangle Park (RTP) site is home to Bayer CropScience's U.S. corporate headquarters. Established in 2008, this site’s Making Science Make Sense (MSMS) program has more than 56 employee volunteers in local area schools and nonprofit organizations in Durham, Orange, Wake and Johnston counties.

Averaging almost eight events per month, the RTP MSMS team supports more than 1,700 students throughout the region. In 2011, MSMS will offer teacher workshops providing hands-on science experiment resources and instructions in both a classroom environment and on-line.

Specifically, the RTP Making Science Make Sense program supports:

  • Durham Performance Learning Center (DPLC) Biology Class with monthly hands-on experiments which coincide with their current topics of study
  • Hands-on science education activities with students at Passage Home, a nationally recognized faith-based nonprofit community development corporation that has been serving Wake County, NC, since 1991
  • Fun hands-on experiments at local area schools: Morrisville Elementary School, Carpenter Elementary School, Quest Academy, Creekside Elementary School Science Festival
  • Bring Your Child to Work Day event, sponsored by Bayer CropScience’s RTP Diversity Council, provides fun and educational experiments for the children of local Bayer CropScience employees
  • Girl Scout Troop events
  • Teacher Workshop event at the Bayer CropScience Clayton “training” facility
  • 2010 Farm Progress Show (more than 900 students and adults participated in MSMS events!)
