Sandra E. Peterson

President, Bayer Medical Care

Sandra E. Peterson is President of Bayer Medical Care and a member of Bayer HealthCare’s Executive Committee. Bayer Medical Care is a portfolio of global medical device companies. Prior to her current role, she was President of Bayer Diabetes Care, where she successfully turned around the global division and achieved twice market growth rates and improved profitability over a sustained three year period. Ms. Peterson joined Bayer Healthcare in May of 2005.

Ms. Peterson joined Bayer from Medco Health Solutions, Inc., (formerly Merck-Medco), where she was Group President and as an Executive Management team member, she played a role in the strategic spin-off of Medco Health from Merck & Co., Inc. Prior to the spin-off, she was Senior Vice President of Merck-Medco’s Health Businesses where she launched several new business lines. Areas of responsibility at Medco included general management, business development, strategy, alliance management, product development, branding and marketing. From 1996 – 1999, she was Executive Vice President of Nabisco and held various global executive positions at Whirlpool Corporation from 1993 to 1996.

From 1987 to 1993, Sandra was a management consultant at McKinsey & Company working closely with the top management of major global companies on brand marketing strategies, innovative product development and new business. Initially, Ms. Peterson held finance and policy positions on Wall Street and worked in Germany as a Bosch Fellow serving with the German Federal Ministry of Finance and the Federation of Germany Industries. She holds a B.A. in Government from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, and a Masters of Public Administration in Applied Economics from Princeton University, Princeton, NJ.

She is a member of the Board of Directors at Dunn & Bradstreet and Chairman of the Board of MEDRAD. In addition, she is Chairman of the Board of Wildlife Trust, a global life sciences non-profit. She is a member of the Committee of 200 and the Women’s Forum. She speaks German and was born in New York, NY, USA.
