Dr. Haakan Jonsson

Senior Vice President and Head of Supply Chain Center

As Head of the Supply Chain Center, Dr. Haakan Jonsson is responsible for the eBusiness, customer service, logistics and product planning functions of Bayer MaterialScience LLC (BMS) – a member of the Bayer Group, an international health care, nutrition and innovative materials group based in Leverkusen, Germany. He is also a member of the BMS North American Leadership Team.

Dr. Jonsson joined BMS – then Miles Inc. Polymers – in 1992, as a senior research chemist and associate research chemist, respectively. He then accepted a position as project leader and deputy superintendent for Plastics Manufacturing with Bayer AG in Dormagen, Germany. When he returned to the United States in 1999, he was the manager of Emulsions Manufacturing at Bayer’s Addyston, Ohio, site and later became director of Manufacturing at the Addyston site. In 2003, Dr. Jonsson was promoted to vice president of Innovation for Bayer Polymers in Pittsburgh.

After the formation of Bayer MaterialScience in 2004, Dr. Jonsson became vice president of Business Development for the BMS LLC Polycarbonates business unit where he was responsible for product and application development, as well as technical customer service and complaint management. He held this position until 2007 when he assumed his current role.

Dr. Jonsson holds a master’s degree in chemical engineering and a doctorate in polymer technology from the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. He is a member of the American Chemistry Council's Executive Rail Group, headquartered in Arlington, Va. Dr. Jonsson is also a member of the Carnegie Science Center's Board of Directors and the Board of Directors for Variety the Children's Charity — both in Pittsburgh
