Job Opportunities Created As A Result of America's Emphasis On Homeland Security

Seven in every ten (70%) college students surveyed believe that America's new emphasis on homeland security will create new job opportunities for college students. Twenty-eight percent do not think this will happen. Freshman are more likely than seniors to believe this will happen (75% vs. 65%). College students in colleges considered to be the most competitive or highly competitive colleges were less likely than those enrolled in the least competitive colleges to believe there will be new job opportunities for college students (66% vs. 79%). Also, students in colleges in the South were more likely than those attending school in the East to believe this new emphasis on homeland security will create new jobs (76% vs. 64%).
Students who felt there would be new job opportunities as a result of the emphasis on homeland security were asked if they were seriously considering one of these new job opportunities. Among this group, 13% said they were.
These students also were asked to estimate what percentage of their fellow students are now seriously considering one of these new job opportunities. On average, the students surveyed estimate around 12%.
