At Bayer HealthCare's Pharmaceutical Division, employees participate in more than 10 major partnerships and school/community Making Science Make Sense programs, including:
- The Seafaring Scientists and Sea Pirates programs, in partnership with Schooner Sound Learning, teach students about marine biology, water quality and environmental issues.
- The Hillhouse High School Career Day is a program that presents students with opportunities to discuss career choices with a diverse group of individuals currently working in varied fields such as Diabetes, Comparative Medicine, Cancer, Chemistry and Quality Assurance.
- The Hopkins School in Summerbridge New Haven sponsors a two-year program committed to encouraging and preparing middle school students to enter top academic programs.
- Focus on Your Future is a technology conference partnership of New Haven-based high school programs for young women introducing career opportunities in fields such as biotechnology, computer technology, engineering and manufacturing.
- The Bayer-New Haven Public Schools Partnership involves a five-year $250,000 MSMS grant for science curriculum change and teacher professional development. When fully implemented, 790 teachers in all NHPS schools that house grades K-6 will be trained in the new curriculum and will have implemented it in their classrooms, reaching approximately 12,000 K-6 students.
- The Bayer-Olin Corporation-Yale University-New Haven Public Schools Citywide New Haven Science Fair marked its largest participation to date, with more than 8,200 K12 students representing 206 science projects competing at the fair. In 2001, the program received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring.
