Diversity
"Building a diverse organization isn’t just a nice idea. It’s also something that makes sound business sense. Simply stated, the more diverse the input, the sounder the decision. And the sounder the decision, the better the outcome. And that holds true, not just within the confines of the organization itself, but with everything the organization touches: its suppliers, its customers, and the communities in which it does business."
Greg Babe
President and Chief Executive Officer Bayer Corporation and Bayer MaterialScience LLC
Diversity enhances everything we do at Bayer. It touches much more than just race or gender. It affects diversity of thought, style and experience. It allows us to improve ourselves and those around us. It increases our productivity, our ability to be innovative, and our human potential. Bayer prides itself in attracting and recruiting the best and brightest people. We believe that similarities and differences make us strong.
Because of this strong belief, Bayer developed the global Values and Leadership Principles to guide our actions and corporate culture. The values and principles illustrate how we should conduct our business and work together across all of our businesses. They also form the basis of our performance management process and provide the framework for diversity accountability and measurement within our global organization.
One of our values is Respect for People and Nature, which includes a personal commitment to value people and their different perspectives and cultures within and outside the corporation. Several of the principles directly focus on diversity with specific behaviors that characterize successful Bayer leaders.
Some of these behaviors include:
- Showing cultural sensitivity toward current and potential customers;
- Seeking input from diverse perspectives;
- Valuing individuals who bring diverse talents and skills; and
- Encouraging an environment where diverse opinions are freely expressed.
We are proud of what we have accomplished to date. Bayer won the Catalyst Award, the highest honor for diversity in the United States, and did so for its initiatives and programs to develop women and people of color. Bayer also received recognition for its workplace benefits and family friendly programs when Working Mother magazine named Bayer among the 100 best companies for working mothers in its annual edition several times. Bayer was also named as one the Top 10 Companies for Global Diversity by DiversityInc, a monthly business magazine and daily news Web site focusing on diversity in the workplace.
