Mark A. Ryan

Chief Communications Officer
Bayer Corporation and Bayer MaterialScience LLC

Mark A. Ryan is responsible for corporate communications for Bayer in the North American region. He is also head of communications for Bayer MaterialScience LLC.

Since joining Bayer in 1996, Mr. Ryan has held positions of increasing responsibility in its polymers, chemicals and pharmaceutical businesses. Prior to his appointment as head of corporate communications in September 2001, he was responsible for Bayer Pharmaceutical's public policy and communications group in West Haven, Conn.

From 2004 to 2006, he led the development of essential2®, a national, multi-year public education campaign on behalf of the American Chemistry Council. In 2006, the ACC presented him with its Distinguished Leadership Award in recognition of his contribution in leading the essential2® campaign.

Mr. Ryan came to Bayer from Ciba-Geigy Corporation where, over a 10-year period, he held a wide variety of positions involving crisis, financial and environmental communications. He also led communications efforts in support of merger and acquisition activity, including the merger of Ciba with Sandoz to form Novartis.

Mr. Ryan is a graduate of Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Public Communications.
