Tom Balzer

Senior Vice President and Head of Supply Chain Center

As head of the Supply Chain Center, Tom Balzer is responsible for the eBusiness; customer service; logistics operations; logistics strategy and procurement; supply chain center of experts; and product planning functions of Bayer MaterialScience LLC. He is also a member of the company’s North American Leadership Team.

Tom joined Bayer in 1986 as a programmer analyst in the Information Technology (IT) group. Since then, he has held positions of increasing responsibility in supply chain logistics, customer service and order fulfillment. In January 2008, Tom led the Supply Chain Transformation initiative at Bayer MaterialScience, successfully implementing a new supply chain model that emphasized simplification, standardization and automation.

Most recently, Tom served as head of Customer Service, eBusiness and the Supply Chain Center of Experts for Bayer MaterialScience’s NAFTA region.

In addition to his daily job responsibilities, Tom also serves as the executive sponsor of Bayer’s African-American networking organization, called ACCESS. ACCESS is a voluntary, non-profit association of employees who work together to promote greater cultural diversity, awareness and education. Tom also represents Bayer on the National Paint and Coating Association’s eBusiness committee.

Tom holds a bachelor’s degree in business education and systems from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He also earned his master’s in business administration from Duquesne University, with an emphasis on corporate information systems and international business.

Currently, Tom lives in Pittsburgh with his wife and two children.
