Bayer in the United States
Diversity
Diversity enhances everything we do at Bayer. It touches much more than just race or gender. It affects diversity of thought, style and experience. It allows us to improve ourselves and those around us. It increases our productivity, our ability to be innovative, and our human potential. Bayer prides itself in attracting and recruiting the best and brightest people in the world. We operate on the belief that similarities and differences make us strong.
Because of this strong belief, Bayer developed the global Values and Leadership Principles as a guide for our actions and corporate culture. It guides how we should conduct our business, and how we should work together across all of our businesses. It also forms the basis of our performance management process and provides the framework for diversity accountability and measurement within our global organization.
One of the values that Bayer embraces is Respect for People and Nature, which includes a personal commitment to value people and their different perspectives and cultures within and outside the Company. Several of the Principles directly incorporate a focus on diversity with specific behaviors that characterize successful leaders in our Company.
Some of these behaviors include:
- Showing cultural sensitivity toward current and potential customers;
- Seeking input from diverse perspectives;
- Valuing individuals who bring diverse talents and skills;
- And, encouraging an environment where diverse opinions are freely expressed.
We are proud of what we have accomplished to date. Bayer won the Catalyst Award, the highest honor for diversity in the United States, and did so for its initiatives and programs to develop women and people of color. Bayer also received recognition for its workplace benefits and family friendly programs when Working Mother Magazine twice named Bayer among the 100 best companies for working mothers in its annual edition.
"I strongly believe that not only is fostering diversity the
right thing to do, but that there is actually a solid business case
for having a diverse workforce. Diversity can give us a competitive
edge. It can help us build market share, open new markets, develop
new products and retain existing business-all critical goals in this
era of increasingly stiff competition."
Dr. Attila Molnar, Bayer President and CEO
